A standard sanding ladder can be: K80 - K120 - K180 - K220 - K320 - K400

For smoother sanding for polishing, for example, there are also grains K500, K600, K800, K1000, K1200.

Always use a coarse sandpaper for rough work. So for example K80. Then sand step by step to an increasingly smooth surface. The tighter the surface, the better the end result.
